Northants Accounting
Business Development Manager Position
In addition to the usual tax and accounts services you’d expect from an accountant, we’ve been able to deliver real and lasting value for our clients through supporting them with their software and industry leading tax planning advice.
As a result of working with us our clients save time on their record keeping, have real time access to information about their profitability, understand their taxes and have lower tax bills in general.
Due to investments we have made in our team and systems we’re now in a position to sustain rapid growth without risking the quality of our client experience.
The role will be based around managing our inbound leads as well as conducting outbound activity, especially to invite prospects to our workshops.
During the workshops we’ll be working hard to demonstrate our value to the prospects and there will be existing clients of ours there to share their experiences.
Historically we’ve prioritised the quality of our clients over the quantity of them, so it’s very important to us that we’re talking to the right people. The BDM will need to understand that and seek out the best prospects.
As time progresses the role will shift towards building up and maintaining a network of contacts and strategic referral partners. As the role involves sales meetings with prospects, we need someone who is well presented and can build up their technical awareness of our industry.
The Right Candidate will be highly motivated and recognise that their role exists to generate value for the business. We expect them to be earning their keep from the first month and as a result this role is only suitable for individuals who feel comfortable on the phone and can handle rejection and keep going.
We’re looking to pay the right BDM £22k a year, with a generous performance-based commission structure on top of this. Our achievable target will add around 50% to top this up, but the earning potential is relatively unlimited for someone with the right mindset and willingness to network.
In addition to this they will have the opportunity to work in a business that has a culture dedicated towards excellence and real progression for its people. The BDM will not be selling our services, they will be educating business owners about the impact a good accountant can really have on a small business.
This role is only suitable for well balanced individuals who are excited by the idea of meeting new people and making a difference to their lives. We use systems to manage our sales so we need someone who’s proficient on office 365 and can learn new software quickly.
In addition we need someone with a full and relatively clean drivers licence, with their own car. They will also be highly proficient in verbal communication.
The minimum hours for this role are 35 per week, however there is an expectation that the targets will be achieved and the working hours will be irregular from time to time.
Our 9 Points of Culture - We're looking for people that fit in with these
-
Integrity
I must always do the right thing for our clients. This means that I have to be honest about our shortcomings and also fix any issues regardless of the cost. To achieve this, I need to support a culture that focusses on learning from our mistakes, adapting our processes and retraining where necessary. -
Sustainability
I must always work in a way that protects and promotes the long-term health of our client’s businesses, as well as those of our suppliers and our own. Decisions can’t be made because they are easy in the short term and any solutions, I provide must be timeless based on current legislation. -
Empathy
I must always recognise that any frustrations our clients experience stem from a failure of communication on our part. I should never assume that there is an understanding and seek to clarify situations in a concise and timely manner. -
Customer Service Excellence
I will always respond to our customers in a friendly, professional, and timely manner. This is also the case for team members and suppliers, and any feedback given will always be constructive with clear outcomes to be achieved. I will not judge people by their past mistakes, but purely on the actions they take to achieve a better future. -
Technical Excellence
I have a responsibility to maintain the highest levels of expertise in our industry. This is achieved through teamwork and a continues willingness to engage with external partners and sources of information. Where I can, I will also seek to invest in developing revolutionary techniques and software for the industry. -
There are no bad people
I will communicate with people in a way they wish to be engaged with, using their name and treat them with respect. Ultimately people are driven by the desire to build a better life for their loved ones and I must recognise that the actions I observe are them doing it in the best way they know how. -
Excuses can never be tolerated
Something might not be my fault, but it is always my responsibility and I will be jointly accountable for the success of the business. We are all human beings and while the chances of errors can be minimised by having the right processes, I must always have my colleagues and clients backs and be ready to pick the ball up if it’s dropped. -
Processes are King
I will always seek to adhere to and improve our processes. Our customers must be completely confident that if one member of the team is not available, then another can pick up immediately where they left things and provide the service to the exact same standard. I have the right to influence a process or script, but once agreed it must be followed. -
Attitude
I will always come to work with a positive attitude and seek to enhance the way others feel about themselves. The world is an abundant place and despite everything I hear on the news, goodwill and opportunity exist everywhere. If I do have an issue with something, I will communicate it professionally and discreetly to my superiors or the person it relates to.
